I was asked about it during my last TV interview (not realising they were going to incorporate a visit to the research unit in Cardiff as part of the broadcast) needless to say, they didn't use my thought on the matter in the programme

But it's not a vocal noise is it? it's the noise their wings make. It's like saying someone walks with a Cardiganshire accent!

Maybe the wrong choice of region - Cardis do squeak when they walk because they're so tight!

Your right! last time I was in Wales I could not understand their buzzes. It was even harder when they didn't have their own particular buzz so used someone Else's buzz with a bit added on the end to make it sound 'authentic' just to confuse us foreign bees!
So a bit of research would be no bad thing.......
