A the media have spun his words

or

B he did not know what on earth he was doing!
 
Doh!

Maybe he did know what he was doing and got the BBC fooled into looking for his swarm :D
 
I remember this very well. It was a cause for great hilarity and embarrasment. It was a new beekeeper who lost the bees and called the police, who obviously weren't very busy at the time as they advised people to be on the lookout in a 10 mile radius or so.
I received a call for a swarm in Pershore the very same day. I checked out the map and found it was in a garden backing onto the beekeeper's garden. I passed it onto the local BKA secretary and I presume the new beekeeper got to reclaim their bees.
