Conway BKA Beekeeping Taster Days 2011
Conway Valley, North Wales.
Saturday 9th April, 18th June and 27th August.
Our Taster Days are a one-day introduction to beekeeping for people with no previous experience of handling bees.
We will cover the different types of bee, types of beehive, personal safety, how to set up an apiary, how to handle bees, honeybee health, the different types of honey, and how to deal with the honey harvest.
The day will be led by Jonathan Garratt, our local Seasonal Bee Inspector, with assistance from members of Conway BKA.
We will provide you with bee suits and gloves for the afternoon session with the bees. Please bring your own wellies.
9am Arrive at Rowen Memorial Hall, tea or coffee.
9.30am to 12.45pm Introduction to beekeeping, with a break for tea or coffee, 11am to 11.15am.
12.45pm to 1.30pm Lunch, bring your own, and informal discussion.
1.30pm Transfer two miles to Conway BKA apiary at Tal y Cafn in own cars and kit up.
2pm to 3.30pm Apiary session with the bees, in groups of about five people.
3.30pm to 4pm Feedback.
4.30pm Depart for home.
Class size approx 15 people.
Cost per person £30 including tea / coffee and information pack.
