Taking Bay cuttings

Been trying to take cuttings from my Bay tree for some friends. Have failed miserably. Has anyone had success? Any suggestions?

You could try layering a low branch, that is supposed to work, but bays are very slow to root.
Some produce suckers apparently, but my bay hedge never has.

look carefully around the base,there are normally a few small saplings in the undergrowth around mine
