Supercedure

I've been keeping an eye on a nuc recently...It has been slow building up. The Queen was introduced on June 16th...Last Sunday, 6/9/20, I had a quick look in to see if all was OK, found 2 charged Q cells on the bottom of a frame, one was quite large, I destroyed both..Today had another look and found 2 more charged Q cells, again on the bottom of a frame...This Q has been slow laying , and has been taking breaks in laying..I have added a frame of sealed brood 3 times since August 3rd..There is 5 "reams" of bees in the hive....It is in a dummied down national BB with 8 frames in it. From past experiance I know that the Qs I get from the supplier usually supercede...Would it be worth me replacing this Queen, if I can get one from the supplier?

They are trying to supercede, and you think the queen may be underperforming, so why not just let them try?

If you ever find just two or three queen cells again I would never destroy them, especially if the queen has been underperforming.

Was thinking of letting them raise a new Q...But in this neck of the woods I think it is a bit late to let them do it.

Yes, your are right Bryang, even Jenkins has declared "The Slaughter of the Innocents" drones that is. Any left will be passed their best as most hives have not produced any drone brood for months.

I hope otherwise the season has been OK? Not a brilliant year here. As you know, I'm a few miles down the road from you and I have drones coming and going from nearly every hive. I didn't check every one but I'd expect it's likely all of them. If it were me, I'd leave them to it.

Hi Steve...They kicked the drones out of the hives 3 weeks ago, it was carnage for a week...Been a very bad year for me as well..very little honey...2 of the hives were rather "boistrous" and made things difficult...

I had small numbers of drone capped brood yesterday. Same Hive that threw their living drones out a month ago - they did the same last year only more so.

I just had a few drones hatched. I am sure they would be happy to find some action round here
