On the Sunday of the Spring Convention Im tempted to do the food safety certificate course which lasts all day (9.30 to 17.30) The cost is £55... but the sting in the tail is that I need to buy the wristband for the day too at £16.00. As the course runs all day... what am I getting for my £16.00 ... or am I misunderstanding something?

Not much more than the food hygiene course as it would appear to be a full day, unless you are there for the weekend, which will bring an opportunity to wander around the trade show, get a bargain or three and talk bees.

If your only objective is the course and qualification, there are other routes. I did mine on-line (distance learning) and these courses are OK. There is the potential to acquire the certificate by foul means of course but this is a matter for integrity (and there seems little point in cheating both self and system - I didn't and scored highly too, I'm pleased to say)! My wife and I qualified at Level 2 in 'Retail' and 'Manufacturing' respectively.

However, the Convention is one of the few opportunities that you will find lectures, workshops, trade fair and a few thousand beekeepers all in one place. Worth a visit.

I guess I would miss out on the interaction with other beekeepers, and the specific application to honey production.. but by comparison, it doesnt feel like good value !

covers all u need in it and if you want to print your own certificate they will reduce the price to £15+vat.

That doesn't answer the question - catering version (for restaurant staff etc?) or manufacturing version (for making stuff)....

dont restaurants and kitchens make stuff then haha

Sorry didnt mean to be rude. its just its exactly the same course.

Material is very similar across all applications as the key concepts are the same, e.g. cleanliness, maintenance of work area, temperature control and storage, legislation, etc. Once candidates have grasped these principles, the development of one's own HACCP (hazard awareness and critical control points - aka risk assessment) addresses specific process risks.
