Can anyone remember when split frames were superceded by solid frames?

Does the lack of replies mean no-one is old enough to remember them? Some-one must be venerable enough to have an idea?

Never heard of a split frame might it have been called anything else?

I only know of it as a split frame. Basically, the top bar was in two halves and I think then nailed together, presumably to hold the foundation.

I am curious because I have two which I don't use any more and I wondered how old they were.

If Rab cannot remember them then it must of been over 200 years ago. :biggrinjester:
