I've just spent an extremely enjoyable few weeks making myself a nuymber of 14x12 Deep National hives and supers from red cedar all built to provide top bee space. My intended configuration is OMF, Brood box, QE, 2 x Supers, Snelgrove Board, Brood Box, Crown Board and Roof.

My question is whether I am likely to get brace comb in the area between the top super and the lower edge of the Snelgrove Board as this will have about a 15 mm gap overall .... Any bright ideas or thoughts ?

:thanks:

Do the bees know of your intentions?
What are you actually trying to do?
Any space bigger than a bee space except bewteen floor and bottom of frames is likely to be braced

Look at Dave Cushman's site referring to Jenter system ....

an infill of slats is made up around the Jenter cage to prevent bees from building brace comb. slats with 9mm beespace between.
Could a flat frame be made up to fit below the Snellgrove boars and inside the top of the top spaced super, with 9mm gaps?
