How do you transfer your lit smoker from site to site?

Looking at the abelo smoker box. Any good?

Any tips?

I'm usually so lazy and don't bother with a smoker but colonies are getting big now so probably need to get in the habit.

Yes, excellent. Air tight so slowly smoker goes out. Between apiary sites I don't latch the lid...it usually is still going when I get to second site.
Big enough to stick spare smoker material, hive tools etc.
Don't use inside car!

Good air tight box plus recessed floor so no getting things burnt below

It's ok to transport between sites in the back of the pick up? Hard top?

Seen it done in pickups and often with the smoker kept in a metal ammunition box for added safety.

I move mine (when I use one) stuffed with grass. Better safe than alight.

I do - cork inserted in nozzle, placed in metal bucket secured upright. Usually gone out if journey is more than 10 mins.

That's what I'm looking at. Thinking of using a cork as well as the air tight box.

Don't want melted inside of pick up truck but equally don't want to faff lighting it at each apiary.

I could bring the plumbing blow torch to give it a blast I suppose.

Think I will give it a go. thanks...

How do you relight? blow torch?

I'm guessing this isn't going to be as bad as I'm thinking with the power of propane!

It takes minutes to light a smoker..just empty it and relight..that would be the way I would do it if the need arose.

Hmm, I dont want to be causing fires and I find it takes a good 5 mins to get the fuel burning properly and cool enough to use.

I've got an XL dadant and it will run for hours once fill of the correct fuel.

Relighting is definitely easier than refueling each time.

In terms of causing fires? Said tongue in cheek but I don't want to discharge the fuel.

Just wanted others experience of moving a lit smoker about?

They get lit in the morning at the first apiary of the day here and are usually going all day, in between apiaries they are transported (still lit) in an open five frame nuc box in the back of a truck, right behind the cab, two smokers fit well in a nuc box.

Yup - blowtorch. Top tip: always carry a spare cylinder...

I just have two apiary sites so I bought a 2nd smoker to leave on site , unless you have an open truck I don't like the idea of carrying hot smelly smokers around in my vehicle...
If I had 10 apiary sites I'd have ten smokers sure they are cheap

The large dadants are about £40. Don't think I'm ready to get one for each site!!

I wouldn't carry it round in my car.

Back of the pick up but it's a hard top. theres not really anywhere for smoke to get into to make it smell.

:iagree:

Wooden nuc bungeed in the back of the truck near the tailgate, side window of the back unit opened an inch or two
