Hi folks,

I've just sited a new hive, what does the forum think (a) open the entrance after a few hours to settle after the journey (b) leave the girls to settle overnight and open the entrance tomorrow?

as always i kind find literature stating both methods are doable

Thanks

Ben

Whenever I have moved a hive to a new location I have opened the entrance straight away, in daylight.

Likewise :). A tip I was given was to place a bunch of grass at the entrance to prevent the bees from rushing out before plotting their location, never tried it myself but can see the logic behind it .

Same here, but then i have never driven my bees for more than 8 miles, but i always open them up to get the airflow going again and let them fly if they wish.

If you want them to suffocate leave them shut in.

I ALWAYS open immediately.
