It should give you all the details of what they are expecting in the show schedule - as it will vary from show to show. Ask whoever the local BKA have asked to be in charge of the show or check on the web on the shows page as they may list them there...

Stephen, the show "schedule" will have the regulations specific to your show.
The schedule is a specification.
It is your set text for what they require.
If you deviate from the schedule, you will be excluded from the judging.
Seriously.

Making a show block of wax is a skill in itself. Wax purification, mould preparation, controlled gentle cooling to avoid cracking... there's quite a lot involved.

You can buy moulds from Ebay and elsewhere. I think there's information on the National Honey Show site about preparing exhibits, in the 'support' section.

It is 70p per class so just a bit of fun but I don't want to make myself look a total pr#t lol

Enjoy it - did it once and decided suspense wasn't for me - but if they say 3x2" they mean it etc...very particular about doing 'as schedule'...Good Luck and let us know

If you are in Warwickshire BKA give the local and renowned Honey judge Bernard Diaper a ring. Best moulds for cakes of wax are pyrex dishes. Casting wax for shows is a skill but one that you can soon learn from others.

show wax

Hi have a look at my photos it shows you how show wax should look.

With regards to the final product it should be free of bits so you will need to filter it carefully, it should smell nice and fresh so try and avoid over heating it.

Honey cappings are preferred but if you don't have enough aim for presentation. In other words each block should look exactly the same size smell and colour. All of them should be clean and unscratched (PS Don't try to polish them not worthy)

Allow them to cool down as slowly as possible or you may find they crack or split and as already suggested read the show rules. If the rules stat a set weight +/- a small amount ensure you're block or blocks are the right weight.

When you get it right and do well in several classes its worth the time and effort. Posted links to pictures as each picture is to large to show on this thread.
