Hi

I have 6 hives right on the edge on a large field of rape which is due to be sprayed tomorrow. The farm manager says the field is not being sprayed with insecticide, but with a treatment which stops the flower petals falling off and sticking to the stalks which damages the plants. I know absolutely nothing about the spraying of crops.

As the forecast for tomorrow is very hot I am not happy shutting the bees in all day.

I am also unhappy about them flying through clouds of goodness knows what!

Should I leave them flying, shut them in or move them to another site??

Thanks

Admin, would you shut them in regardless of the temp? and for how long?

I am going to say this. There is no need to shut in if not insecticide and given the temperatures and the humidity (certainly here) I would leave them open. The temps are such that shutting them in (certainly on solid floors) may well lead to melt down and or death.

Personally I would leave them open.
