Trivia but interesting.

Watching bees in observation hive running in and out along plastic tube,

a good 90% of them have developed road sense and keep to one side of the tube...and dont bump into the ones coming the other way. Mine are driving on the right....

So do bees exhibit handedness?

not as yet into studying what they do in private....

They do mostly seem to enter the tube on the same side and run along the tube at quite a rate of knots until they bump into a learner...

driving on the "right" side

As well as the obvious ones we all know about, Worker bees have Trail pheromones, which like in the ant, allow trails to be followed.

Presumably therefore in the tube entrance of an observation hive these trails will naturally develop over time with both the gradient of trail pheromone along the two trails AND the gradient of queen pheromones, contributing to help keep exiting bees along one trail and entering ones along the other.

keep exiting bees along one trail and entering ones along the other.

Seems to be the situation.

Wish they'd clean their feet tho. Wont be long before the clear plastic tube is a non see thro plastic tube,,,
