I requeened a colony a few weeks ago and put the old queen in a nuc. She is doing well, but the new queen is nowhere to be seen - No eggs or brood and irritable bees. Obviously, I need to put the Queen back. Can I just Merge the nuc and hive without bothering with newspaper? It is after all, their original Queen.

No, there would be noticeable differences between the colonies! - well to their noses anyhow!

They have forgotten her, or were not even around, if it were several weeks.

Perennial question is whether the other queen is still there or not.....?

Regards, RAB

Requeening is, I think, less likely to succeed as the season gets older. Workers are more 'suspicious' later in the season.

I wouldn't risk not using newspaper.
