I'm buying my first colony from a neighbour who lives 2.5 miles away as the crow flies. We intend to transfer the brood into a new brood section and relocate. Has anyone any ideas/comments about problems associated with the proximity of my new location?

You should have no problems with a move of 2.5 miles. A few bees may return to their old home but the majority will be fine. Obstruct the entrance with a few leafy twigs so the bees don't just zoom out but pause and think "something new here" and re-orientate. Enjoy you bees:cheers2: Mike

Thanks Mike,

That corresponds with other advice I've had.

I would agree, time of year is key here as a strong local flow = less travelling so 2.5m should be fine.

Thanks Jez, even more confidence now. We've lots of flowers and blooms for the little ladies to go at so I hope they'll be happy in their new home.
