re-using food safe plastics

So storing honey in the food safe plastic tubs...

Can I ask about cleaning them .... once empty do you just wash in hot soapy water ?

I also have access to some food grade plastics that have had mayonnaise in them ... given they are used once ....after a few washes hoping these would be ok .. note I dont sell honey just give it to friends and family...In the spirit of recycling would like to use them if possible.

I know someone mentioned getting ones from a baker that had jam in them before but cant find the post ...

so question is .. how to get the neutral plastic smell back and remove the jam/mayonnaise smell ready for honey ?

Just thinking outside the box here.....how about melting a little honey and wiping it round the inside of the tub and then wash it again. Don't use them so I can't try it!

I give you this quote from Wedmore's Manual of Beekeeping (first published 1932, my edition 1947).

Are you sure ,that you need to reuse plastic???

I get all my buckets from the baker. 20p each. They might hav had jam, custard or even Mayo in them. A wash with hot soapy water ( they are clean from the bakers). Been using them for years, buying a few fresh each year, and honey has never been tainted
