I have a wire queen excluders and have just measured the gap between two wires and it is 4.4mm my point is if the wire is damaged and gets bent how much wider will it have to be so the queen can pass through based on say a young queen that is presumably smaller?

The same width that a slotted excluder distorts to when bent badly.

In other words it's academic one will fail as much as another unless you can get hold of the very heavy duty wore excluder's which I believe came from Germany in the 80's but then they cost some £15.
