Morning,

Monday collected 2 wonderful Nucs, full of bee's etc.
my problem, when i arrived home they were 14 x 12!! whoops, my equipment is standard National. ideas??

The Plan:-
add Eke to National Brood
place 5 frames of 14 x12 and add 5 standard national brood frames.

in few weeks
Add national brood box above with queen
close lower entrance and open entrance into standard brood.

other ideas welcome

Steve

Buy a 14 x 12 brood box and stick with that format?

Cost about the same as an eke!

Not a good idea. His equipment is standard National so his existing brood box frames, brood foundation etc would be wasted. His idea of what sounds like a modified Bailey comb exchange sound good - though it will take time for the nucs to build up enough strength to move ino the standard BB above.
I suggest: feed ++ and maybe dummy-down the lower BB?

Er, he will be wasting the 14 x 12 frames that the bees came on.

It's not a massive big deal.

Plenty like the 14 x 12 format, so was just suggesting for the cost of a single box, everything else is compatible

Put a super under your standard brood box then another B.B.

Put the 14*12 in the bottom box with dummy boards each side.

Above that the same number of standard frames.

Feed and when the queen moves up add a QE. Keep feeding

When all worker brood has gone from below move the standard box to the floor. Add foundation as needed.

In other words a Bailey. You could put in an upper entrance if you wanted.

I doubt that they will put brace comb in the deeper floor space. If they do does it matter.
