I googled pollen colour charts and found this http://www.lauratyler.com/category/color-charts
I understand the colour doesn't translate well in printing or depending on your colour settings, but as a rough guide is this a good one? It doesn't cover many plants. Can anybody recommend another one? I know there is a book, but I wondered if there was anything I could access online ( or free lol )

The one I've got is a little folded card by Stephen Hardy called the Pocket Pollen Colour Guide. It's a couple of pounds at most, from the big online bee suppliers, possible even cheaper elsewhere.

Wow, thanks :) I may get a little book for when I'm out, but such blue pollen? I don't think I've ever seen anything like it! Can't wait until i do :)

I have this but it's so confusing as so many pollens are similar colours.
I think if you know what forage is available this book is probably brilliant.
There is somebody here on the forum who does pollen microscopy which would give you a definitive diagnosis, so to speak.
Poppy pollen is :coolgleamA:

Excellent chart Jimmy...nice website too. I think I may go with this one......looks like they were bringing himalayan balsam, which we have loads of by the stream running through the allotments.

You should try looking at it under a microscope, the shapes are amazing.

I would love to Cazza :) The only microscope I have access to I'm afraid is my 8 year olds plastic one lol, you know, those national geographic ones for kids.

Saying that, I wonder if the school have some? They are going to use the bees as part of the curriculum, maybe studying pollen would be part of that, or is that a bit to difficult for primary kids?

It's not difficult to prepare a slide of your chosen pollen you do need a decent microscope. I don't imagine a primary school would have need of one.
