Please can someone identify and tell me what happened?

I had (I think) bumble bees making a nest under a wall of sleepers in my garden - actively in/out for a week. Then I spotted the attached just outside the nest - I assume 2 bees of a small species attacking the larger bee (which was moving, but slowly, so I assume already overwhelmed)
I’d be really interested to learn 1)species of the 2 different bees 2)what was happening- and why? 3)should/could I have done something? The following morning, there was no sign of these bees and since, no activity in/around the ‘nest’ (if that is what is was) Thanking anyone in the hope of help

Looks like a queen smaller bees probably not attacking…did the nest get disturbed or dug out?

Thank you for your reply. No, the area was not disturbed at all - in fact it was shielded with a mesh surround
 
I’d suggest the queens not made the nest on returning and there’s a couple of workers with her.
