I checked through an apidea yesterday that had just (2 days) hatched a new queen and heard her piping.

1. I have never heard this before and was amazed at the sound

2. I was told that this was a sign on an imminent swarm, but as she was the only queen present this seems unlikely, any thoughts?

Cheers

Well my hive 2 swarmed at 10.00 am after I heard a queen piping at about 8.00pm the previous night.

Are you sure there are no queen cells present?

I have also heard the workers quarking on the beecam, just communicating,

I expect she is trying to find out if she has any sisters that have yet to hatch, in order to do the deed.

The queen is in an apidea and hatched from a cell I put in so am fairly sure that there were no other cells. Will keep check through the apidea again asap.
