I have a large colony and someone has suggested I overwinter on brood and a half.
I am relatively new and was wondering what the implications of this are, will queen move up and begin to lay in super early in season and if so what to do with super. As it is a large prolific colony, do I just leave super on and run on brood and a half next year.
I ask as I was thinking of swapping standard brood box for 12 x 14 which would make inspections easier than brood + 1/2.

Plenty run brood and a half, plenty run double brood, and some make the switch to 14x12. This all kind of says a single National is too small unless you are an experienced beek who really knows what he/she is doing.
