FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE OF OSR

From looking at OSR in other areas, I now see what is mean by "going over", the OSR around my out apiary is a little behind what I have seen elswhere, however, as I understand, I must get it extracted more or less straight away after "going over" ? If this is the case, after filtering from the extractor must I filter straight into jars, or can I filter into a "bucket"and stand, if so how long before jaring up ?

In other words, what is the procedure ?

:sos:

Many Thanks.

getting the OSR honey out of the comb quickly is the critical step.

Whether you immediately jar it, or store it in bulk, it's then much easier to manage when it starts crystallising. (a gentle warming at 40C will return it back to liquid form)

As already posted elsewhere, my OSR is going over, but the honey is far from ready to extract. Yes, if left too long it will set in the comb.
My friend who has kept bees for decades puts his straight in the jar. I run mine into buckets, where it usually sets like concrete. I then warm it until all is melted, seed it, and often cream it.
Suggest you look at the sticky at the top of the page

I extract, filter through a Thornes double wire strainer into a honey bucket, leave it for 24-48h to let bubbles rise, then bottle it. My personal experience is that it contains small crystals already because it has started to granulate and some of those go through the filters, that is enough to seed it and it sets, not like concrete but like peanut butter, and is spreadable and lovely

Maybe I'm lucky
