Thrones sale has this kit on sale for £200. It states it can take 8 BS frames and it seems to be a good deal for the money but before I buy it I have a silly question. Is that SN4 frames or SN1’s. Thank you all in advance.

PS, anyone else have one of these already?

SN4 and SN1's are basically the same size - Shallow Nationals the 4 just means they have Hoffman self spacing side bars. I think you mean Deep Nationals or Shallows

Ah, is that what they mean. I know, have seen, super frames which are narrower than my SN4s and presumed those to be SN1s. The deeps im familiar with as they are used in the association apiary. Was just checking before i buy that it would take my SN4s. Sorry for the very basic question but i thought it best to make sure and appear dum rather than being out of pocket. Cheers Jenkins.

I have one and the time that I bought it another member bought one as well. I paid full whack for it and I thought at the time the price was reasonable although for £200 it sounds like a steal.

I can't really compare it against much as mine is the only one I have used. I don't understand why they dont put the honey gate closer to the bottom of extractors however.

Yeah i have read many people complain about the gate on extractors Angry Mob. Is it a real issue in this extractor or can you simply tip it forward a little? Are you happy with it overall? Thank you.

In fact, why is the gate not under the extractor like an oil sump? The idea is to strain it anyway. However im sure there's a good explanation.

Yes you can tip forward however getting the last bit is a pain. I had thought a flat conical shape with the honey valve mounted underneath would make more sense however I'm guessing the reason is costs, that would be more difficult to make.

Yes I'm happy with it; when looking at them It was the cheapest 8 frame that I seen; even more so now.

Can this extractor be retro fitted with an electric motor?

I bought one this Summer and it's ok. It rattles a bit and is a little rough in places - I had to smooth the rough edges of the welds for example. The quality is a little questionable but for the price and with the ability to extract 8 at a time it's ok

With ingenuity I would expect to be able to fit an electric motor to anything. If it has a handle for winding then the handle can be removed and a motor shaft put in instead, even if it's just a variable-speed electric drill. I was going to try to do that with mine but it only accepts two frames at a time so it's not worth it. While my two-framer does the job I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has more than a couple of hives. It cost me £150 (with some other stuff) but I wish I'd added the extra money for one that took more frames.
