We've had a nuc stolen from our apiary just outside Edinburgh - a single Thornes style cedar nuc with metalled roof with a small colony of bees in it, and a nuc feeder (yellow plastic). Most bits should have the initials FG on them.

Very annoying and disheartening, since we lost all but one hive over winter (from 7 going into winter) and we were planning on increasingly our stock to help supply folk on the local beginner's course with bees next year.

The fact they only took one nuc implies that its a beginner/hobbyist who's just looking for one, as from what I've read here professional thieves take everything. the worst thing is, if they'd just come to us and asked really nicely they'd probably have got a cheap nuc from us next spring! :banghead:

Its been reported to the police and we're asking some of the nearby buildings if they got anything on CCTV, but I'm not holding out much hope. Time to electrify the apiary and bolt everything down...

Sorry to hear that. Hope u find the culpret and get u're bees back. With all the loses last winter it might not be someone new especially if they need to re-stock an existing Apiary, just a thought - good luck.

Thats totally pants

Sorry to hear that - hope they turn into 'bitey bees' and give 'em a sting or two!

Just spent this lunchtime going round the apiary with chains and locks, securing down as much as possible - its no guarantee that a determined thief couldn't still take things, but at least it'll slow them down a little!:smash:

No - never head anything more about it - box or bees... haven't had any more problems since though *touch wood!*
