Hi everyone.
As a newbie is great to touch base with all of the experts in this forum...
I live in the north of Italy and the weather here is very hot at the moment.
I have my bees close to my house and so I enjoy watching them several times a day.
Over the last week around 9 in the morning they start leaving the hive and start coming back full of pollen on a regular basis. I counted around 300 bees with pollen coming in over around 7-8 minutes. In the afternoon they slow down a little. Around 4pm (still very hot) they start flying around like crazy around the hive entrance up to around 8 feet off the ground. After about an hour they completely settle down and hang around the give entrance with little or no flying.
This is a daily occurrence.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal behaviour and if there is any meaning to this pattern?
Thanks for your contribution. It's very much appreciated.
Ciao from Italy
(good luck for tomorrow night but not too much):p

It's probably the newly emerged bees doing orientation flights. They tend to come out, hover around for a while and then return. Remember that if the queen lays 1000 eggs a day, that 1000 new bees emerging every day
