Hi all, If you are introducing a new queen can you also treat with apigard or is it best to wait tlll she is established? Colony has very little capped brood and has been queenless for around 10 days, Thanks for any thoughts.

Good thinking; suggest you leave the colony well alone until she's been laying at least two weeks.

Personally, I would have treated to remove the phoretic mites before introducing the new queen. Dependent on infestation, mind. Thymol takes only a very few days to get rid of them.

i introduced a queen last week at the same time as putting thymol on. Checked yesterday and she is laying.theres on guarantees with queen introduction whatever you do.

Given that a lot of unregistered beekeepers may share your area and may not be cognisant of the mite resistance situation, can you be certain Internet bought Apistan has not been used? Some people just don't think! (with acknowledgements to O90O)

Yes resistance is a distinct possibility.
Aparrently short lived according to vita.
If there is no serious problem its best just to delay treatment.
If theres an urgent varroa problem though its best tackled because Sept bees are Winter bees
