Hey Guys,

I'm a very new beekeeper and have had a hive around 4 days since getting a Nuc delivered on Saturday.

I have a feeder in a super above the hive with a 1 to 1 sugar water solution inside. I also had a queen excluder below the feeder & crown board.

I noticed that no bees were venturing up to get the food through the excluder, so I decided to remove it. Now the bees are going to the food source! Is this a common issue, do my bees just not fit through the excluder gaps? Have I done the right thing in removing the excluder?

Thanks for your advice,

Felix

They just don't like excluders that much really. Would you like squeezing through a grid just to get a sugary drink ? A QE is only to stop the Q from going past it for whatever reason, some folks do not use them at all.

Just noticed - crown board mentioned. In your case, from the bottom up hive is usually _ Floor. Brood box(s).Feeder. Crown board if used. Roof.
