Indeed, but I wouldn't get out of bed for the salary!

I doubt it with that particular job - it's going to be sat in an office setting up new systems.
That payscale isn't too bad for us normal people.
It's also an RBI's payscale not the lower SBI grade and RBI's spend most of their time doing paperwork not working in the field.

Indeed, junior doctors, teachers and scientists spring to mind. Not CEO money granted but a decent amount.

It is a significant sum for some but you would have to also purchase a reliable vehicle to travel nationwide. Only 25 days holiday and weekend working if required. By the sound of it there would be very little time to do you own beekeeping.
If someone really wants to beekeep all week and earn that sort of money why not set up a small beekeeping company and work for yourself. Last year I earned approx 60% of that salary working on average 2 days/week and never had to travel more than about 10miles from my front door.
I only had SWMBO pressurising me, (mostly because I should be spending more time with her now I'm retired), could plan my days around leisure and the bees and the only real extra paperwork is invoicing and VMD forms!
A doddle compared with the NBU job.

It's only occasional travel - probably to Sand Hutton for a few face to face meetings, the 25 days increases yearly after the first year to a maximum of 30. and the 'if required' weekends would I think be few and far between and would consist of time and a half (plus half time Saturday premium) maybe even a day in lieu and double bubble Sundays

Unlike what the people who believe the tripe fed to them by the daily mail, we have to pay for our pension, yes, there is a privilege day for the monarch's 'birthday' the only benefit anyone gets from the parasites.

I sell honey from outside my house using an honesty box system (and camera) and sell to a few shops which generates approx 1/3 of my income.
The biggest part comes for "services" as you call them - setting up and maintaining apaiaries for private gardens and corporate bodies. At present I maintain 25 hives but last year relinquished my most lucrative hives to another "Forumite" as the 20mile travel was a bit of a pain.
TBH I can't be arsed to do things like farmers markets as it would eat into my spare time and increase the wrath of SWMBO. I haven't got the space for candle making etc so keep my range of products simple.
I'm not saying this set up would work for everyone but in an affluent area like mine there are clients who think nothing of paying out money to have someone look after a couple of nice WBCs in their 350 acre estate on the Surrey Sussex border then ask if I know any beekeepers on the Isle of Lewis who would set up an apiary on their 6000 acre shooting estate there.

TBH I initially thought the same as I recently had a long phone conversation with one of technical guys about the information content of the BeeBase website. He actually said that they were going to employ someone to sort all that out and I sounded the right sort of guy ( on reflection I seem to remember some sarcasm in his voice)
