Mouldy and brittle wax

Sorry if this has been asked before but how can you avoid stored empty super frames becoming very brittle and the few bits of pollen left going mouldy? The supers are stacked and stored outside over the winter, on an open mesh floor with a roof on top.
 
You probably can't ... but the bees will sort them out whatever state they are in so I tend not to worry., If waxmoth have got at them I cut out any bits that have been damaged by them or if it's too bad they get recycled. Having said that .. since using Certan and latterly Dipel I haven't had any waxmoth issues.
