Hi all. seeing the thread in the Adults section (how many people does it take to change a lightbulb) made me think....if you have a honey warming cabinet that uses 60w gls bulbs (the standard ones) then you'd better stock up as the 11w low energy ones definitely don't give out as much heat, even if you put 6 in there to replace the 1 60w you had before.

Of course if you can afford a thermostatic heater, this doesn't apply, but not all of us are millionaires !!

I post this as the old ones are soon to be phased out and there are reports of many locations selling out.

You could always use a proper heating element... they cost about 10 times what a GLS lamp does.

I have made a few cheap thermostats with a 100 watt bulb for egg incubators.
I must try one in a warming cabinet.

It is only the normal bulbs which are going? The fancy ones will be available? OK more expensive.

Plenty of alternative options.

Second hand hair roller thingies for instance?

A cheap low voltage transformer running a device will give out quite a few watts.

Battery charger and auto bulbs.

We will get by with improvisation.

Thorne will probably stock a suitable offering at extreme expense.

Regards, RAB
