Most of the books I have, say bees will travel up to 5 miles to get to OSR.

The nearest OSR to our apiary is only 1.4 miles as the bee flys. But our little darlings have totally ignored it. Occasionally we'll spot one bee returning covered in pollen, but thats it, one bee, no more.

So how far will your bees travel to OSR?

There are acres of OSR only about 1/2 mile to the NW of my hives yet all my bees seem to be travelling SE towards the village gardens.

Si,

Well.

The real question is how far will bees travel?

In real terms for water the travel can be miles, some 8 miles.

NOT in the UK please note.

So the issue is how far will bees fly for a good source *string... length*.. as far as it is profitable for them to do so.

I had some frames one year with a dark arch in the midst of the OSR. Hawthorne.

Your bees will fly as far as is profitable for their colony.

Realistically some .75 miles.Sighs, no link, no research papers just very old fashioned experience.

I think ours are heading towards the town gardens as well, but then again they are all around us.

Well.
