It all looks so orderly until you slow it down

Heathrow air traffic control would be dead impressed.
Nice video.

Awesome.
I can't help but feel a landing strip would make them a bit more productive.

You took the words out of my mouth ;) , although they get along without one i find it beneficial especially when they are coming in with a wind behind them full of stores.
If you sit and watch them on colder days they usually only have one attempt at gaining entry, if they undershoot they sometimes do not have the heat or energy to take flight to try again , that is why i use landing strips and board across the legs at the front of the hive to stop them going under the floor, i know they make many replacement bees everyday but i feel better if a can half there workload and save a few..

Now I know why I have alighting boards on my hives, I always wondered if there was any point. Good video, most informative...and more than a little bit amusing.

I am also not sure how a landing board would improve things as all the issues in this video occurred with collisions between flying bees. I have a board I just haven’t put it back on this year as it was set up for 2 hives on a double stand.

I do need to reorganise.

As mentioned above the first hive has a full width entrance but the bees all go in through the same 2-3” gap. Congestion is the issue here, and that is the bees choice as I haven’t restricted the entrance.

One of my hives does this they have the hole entrance but all use the corner its very interesting to watch I've observed at night this colony cluster above where they use the entrance .
Nice to see a good video on here and a keen hobbyist ...

The landing board on our WBC seems to be used predominantly for sun bathing! :D

Should the title not read “disorderly”, or perhaps “when” instead of “until”? Thread might make more sense if one, or the other, option was implemented!

As far as using one side of the entrance, you will find the air conditioning in the hive is organised rationally by the bees. The air circulation will be organised with the intake on one side and the exhaust on the other. Much more noticeable with a solid floor, than an OMF, I would guess.

check it out and you may be able to understand why the bees tend to use one side...

I don’t believe there is an issue with the title. If I implemented “one or other” of your suggestions it would make no sense at all, I would have to implement both of them. One or other would say “orderly when you slow it down” or “disorderly until...” both are, I believe, incorrect.
It seems that everything bees do in life appears nothing but orderly, until you slow it down. The bees go in so fast at normal speed you can’t tell what’s happening. Please see the second video for clarification on this, they just zip straight in.
As to access routes, all my bees use the corner nearest to their flight line, I suspect they are using the shortest, and therefore, most efficient route. All hives use this corner whether they are on OMF or solid floor. By your reasoning this hive should be less noticeable as this one has a completely open OMF.

Thanks for watching my nonsense and feeling obliged to comment though. I appreciate it.
