I did wonder if it would be a bit sharp ?
 
It does look like he cuts the middle, which is the pulled part?
 
On YouTube link pulling glass tube the man then cuts the glass tip. But I can't make out which end he's cutting?

After pulling the melted capillary apart, the glass cools. The tip needs to be cut (in the centre), beveled (if desired) and flame polished
 
So it could be hand pulled as in the YouTube clip I showed but then would need to be cut?

If you're good at it (with practice) you can get two tips from each pipette. However, expect your early attempts to be uneven/mis-shaped/unsuitable for use. Like most things, it takes practice

Yes. It is possible. However, the molten glass can sag in the middle due to the weight of the glass (timing/rolling in the flame affect this)
A tip puller makes a better/more consistent job of it
 
Ok, worth a try...I feel a winter project coming on :)
Just ordered some calipers too, perfect!
