most of my hives still have plenty of drones, if i made up a small nuc from my prized colony, is it too far gone in the season for them to raise their own queen ?

July has been a washout so far, but we may get sun back in august.

Go for it, don't worry. I've had even a case with late September queen an at the spring everything was just fine....
