Cannulas are very fragile and break easily. The last time I bought them, they worked out at about £5/each so, if you're going to use a lot of cannulas, it makes sense to make them yourself. I use a Schley vertical tip puller (which I think cost 7-800 Euros if memory serves me right) but it doesn't take long to recoup that expense if you can make your own.
I have attached a document explaining the development and use of the device along with a short clip of flame polishing the cut tip.
