apart from dna testing which is past my pocket prices how do we go about finding out what type or its breed type history of our bees?

i have several bee hives and i want to know other than dark european what i truely have, how do i go about it and with what equipment

Hi Pete,

I think you will have to try the old method of Morphology.

That information should be able to be gleamed from Dave Chusmans site.

Best of luck mate.

Regards;

Actually that's a supplementary text to the book poly hive mentioned though it is where you will find the morphometric standards for the dark european bee.

"Breeding techniques and selection" is well worth purchasing though. Like Hooper's book, it's one you keep going back to and finding something new each time. It's my favourite bee book along with Hooper. It's aimed at the serious bee breeder but there are plenty of bits here and there which prove to be useful tips for any beekeeper.

Also it provides a rare european perspective on bee keeping to add to the usual American and British publications.
