Does anyone know whether using hot wax to seal joint gaps in my DIY feeders is feasible and how would I go about it please.
Masking tape edges to stop leaks then drip in molten wax?Does anyone know whether using hot wax to seal joint gaps in my DIY feeders is feasible and how would I go about it please.
Isn’t silicone poisonous to the bees?Whats wrong with silicone?
Never heard that one. It's fine for fishes and humans. Once set it's more or less inert.Isn’t silicone poisonous to the bees?
Yes. Seem to remember that method was good enough for hivemaker too.I pour molten wax into my feeders and roll it round the seams. 100% drip free.
Hi, one word of warning. Silicone sealer sold for making aquariums should be fine BUT most silicone sealer sold for use in the home contains fungicide so it can be used in steamy bathrooms etc. DON’T use that! Go for the fungicide free or you might have real problems down the line. Good question though - something I’ve thought of doing (wax sealing that is). Never even thought of using silicone - I will now thoughThanks both. Silicone it is
tell us more!Given that supers are routinely vaped with acetone to supress nosema
That's something I've never heard of - or read about. Where have you seen that idea ?.... Given that supers are routinely vaped with acetone to supress nosema I don't think they are affected by it at all and are onto wet acetone treated frames as soon as they get them.
Too late, I’ve done it now and hoping the acetate aids in some way or another.Hi, one word of warning.
