been known about for years - rembering reading an article on them in the South African farmer's weekly when I was out in Lesotho - Capensis are really bad news for honeybees out there though. they used to be confined to the Southern cape but migratory beekeeping meant that the buggers spread further North. I think now there is a ban on bee movements from Capensis areas.
 
It should say at once that it is cape honeybee, which occupy scutellata honeybee hives.
