Honey Refractometer

Does anyone use a honey refractometer, i.e. an optical instrument that measures the water content of honey / nectar? I was thinking of buying one, but was wondering how useful they really are?

I purchased one of the Fleebay ones from Hong Kong last year and used it a couple of times.

Would I but another if it broke ? YES!

Admin, I was looking at the ones on sale from Hong Kong and might buy one that has two scales, for sugar level as well as water content. As PH states, they look to be important instruments, but I have found scant reference to a reflectometer in only one book, no mention in the other books.

There was no mention, as far as I can remember, on the beekeeping course, but I shall ask them why. After all it would be good for everyone to be aware of the existence and use of such a useful tool / instrument.
