Honey gate - Non drip?

Thornes and National Bee Supplies sell a snap shut 'clean cut' valve (called the 'perfection' valve with NBS) which is meant to be drip free, I have one but have yet to try it. I think you need a metal bottling tank as it needs a robust foundation to work effectively.

I find the easiest way to stop the drip is just to lick it.

I too have stopped using the valve, reverting to using a jug from the bucket, it feels so much simpler, efficient and drip free

But using the valve is like a fun computer game!
Tbh, I've just gotten used to the drip and wipe the surface with a damp cloth every now and then when I walk past. The drip is like a permanent member of the household. I might start saying 'Morning' and 'Sleep tight!' to it. I'll miss it when all the honey in the bucket sets.

The valve should not leak if the hinge nut and the nut on the other side are tightened to compress the O ring slightly and the O ring is in good condition. Never have a problem with any of mine.

I discovered the mistake I made for years was storing my honey container with the honey/gate valve shut, this keeping the o ring under prolonged compression robbed it of its necessary flexing !

A good quality O ring should stay flexible for many years. They're used in plumbing joints for example, and in all sorts of industrial equipment.

This is true .
Yet not too many are deployed in situations like a honey container!
Good quality O rings are subject to failure ..I spent my working life in engineering! The advice I gave is still valid, costs nowt and can do no harm so why not ?

I tried putting pressure on the gate as described above when I poured honey today and didn't get a single messy jar (or worktop) in the 40 jars I filled
