homing beacon?

3 Commercial hives with National supers, Top Bee Space. + 2 Nucs
One of my hive entrances. The bees have built this structure from some burr comb that fell from the QE on the last manipulation / inspection. (A/S).
Is this a 'beacon' or 'identifier' mark for the new queen to be able to better recognise the hive after her mating flight/s ?
 
Woud it have been there if not dropped by you? I think not. Probably just too big for them to remove. So possibly would be built up to the bottom of the frame?

Hive entrances would generally be smaller than we allow. if she can get that close shewould not be 'lost'.
