Does anyone have comments or experience of the clockwork smokers ?
or even the cordless self igniting type.

rab (o90o) used to have a cordless petrol driven 4 wheeled self igniting smoker until the rutland firebrigade turned up!

You think that is funny. I once drove about twenty miles like that. Too small a tractor, with too little front end weight, with a 3 1/2m (or 4m?) Kuhn power harrow (with a packer-roller), on the three point. Hairy - and slow! Had to take detours to keep away from main roads! Needed an escort for the last stretch as it got too dark to be safe at that width.

I have my second vulgan. It is not so handy as usual smoker. Mechanism is not always in condition and it needs setup. It doest not start or it does not stop. That small problem.

Oh for the simple good old days when the only PPE you needed was a tweed suit and all the smoke you needed was provided by the shag in the pipe clenched securely between your teeth throughout the inspection process.

Excellent idea. I may try to resurrect these days. Now where's that epipen?

Did my ploughing test at college like that on wet clay, at least I was doing a job unlike some. Not to the specified depth couldn't pull it any deeper, just dabbed the left brake now and again to keep it straight. Examiner took one look killed himself laughing & walked on, we all passed I think. Good fun

I tried one once, they are not that great and you can't dip them in soda water to clean all the tar off. If you just wipe around your smokers brim with a scratchy cloth with soda water it cleans up nicely and you don't have to bash the end in with your hive tool to open it next time!
