Hi Locky and welcome.

If you can't find a mentor or a course locally quickly, at least you can borrow some good books from the library. I like "A practical manual of beekeeping" David Cramp.

Welcome to the world of beekeeping!

Getting a nuc before learning to manage a colony is not a disaster, but it will put you under pressure to learn really fast - the bees won't wait for you.

You may have to travel to courses to get some help quickly; look for the nearest 'Omlet' Introduction to Beekeeping course - a few are run by good folks from this forum and would be an excellent start.

Let this thread know if you can't find one and those folk will probably sort you out.
