Help and advice needed please.

Sorry if this is not the right forum but I am trying to safely relocate a bumble bee hive from inside a bomb shelter which needs to be taken down.

I have had the nest relocated but there are still lots of bees going in, any advice would be much needed.

As I say I am looking to remove them without hurting them, i cannot wait until November time :-(

Should get a small fortune for that shelter on fleabay.
If nest has already been relocated the ones returning have no home. They should move/die within a few days.
A tip.... if you move Bumble nest move at night/late evening when all the fliers are at home.

How could anyone take the shelter away?

The man took the hive on Friday and they appear to be trying to make a new hive, some of them are on the outside of shelter making a next of grass.

Advertise it on fleabay...you may be surprised...
I suspect the man took the nest (not hive) during the day when many of the nests flying bumble bees where out flying and when they returned to find their "home" long gone are now trying to build a shelter. If you paid him... ask for your money back as total incompetent. Night/First light when ALL fliers at home is the time to move.

I have paid him yes, and it was mid day.

So what can i expect to happen now, will these bees trying to build shelter move on or stay?

12inch thick concrete i dont think anyone can move it.

How long should I leave it before taking any further action, could they renest inside the shelter?

The remaining bees left behind will perish

If you paid him to remove the bees, then give him a ring and tell him to come and finish the job!

It sounds as if he's having a laugh though.
It's fairly basic procedure to shift a colony once all the fliers are back at home.
Mid day was never going to do it.

Thats awful :-( i know that he took a lot with him, if I had known i would have requested he came late evening.

It sounds like he isnt that bothered, i could ring him Monday and ask, will the remaining bees be easy for him to collect now the nest has gone?

If they are still gathering together and he collects them at dusk or dawn, then yes.

Note that your local wildlife group or the Bumblebee Conservation Trust would do this type of relocation job properly and free of charge.

Correction to my last post. Although they can provide DIY advice, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust do not do relocations, which is a pity.

They are still flying in and out today, seem to be going into 2 areas inside the shelter and they have created a new nest just outside.

The person who removed the nest is coming back tomorrow (again at lunch time) to have another look.

If you are sure that they really are rebuilding a nest, it could be because your amateur failed to catch the queen.

If it was my project i would empty all that rubbish out from inside but slowly till i got to the nest/nests ..then go back at dark and put them in appropriate boxes..i would then empty every single piece of rubbish out of the hole to make sure they have no chance of making another nest..all in a bee suit though and that is what you have payed for..

Ive watched them since Friday, the have made like a small 6inch mound of grass and i suspect there are 20 bees coming and going. Thats just outside, then there are 1 or 2 bees every minute or so flying in and out of the shelter under all the wood and paper.

I have been carefully removing bits of wood and some nice ww2 artifacts. I doubt very much the man will come back at night, he is coming tomorrow so I will ask him.

Really appr all your advice.
