Heather QE or not?

Is a queen excluder necessary when hives are on the heather?
Whats the view?

I would imagine that some people will have already moved stocks to the heather over the past few weeks. On 14th July i saw quite a bit of heather in bloom around the Silent Vally reservoir....

I was told by my mentor that HM won't lay in the supers due to the time of year, she didn't last year but this year????
