Heather honey question.

Can't talk specifically of heathers, or seasonal lore, but nectar quantity is dependant on soil moisture.
 
Probably make no difference if it was wet and too cold in the late summer - rain or no rain in the spring.
 
Can't answer your question but what is important in here in East Anglia is drought in July & August. The coastal (Dunwich Heath) heather grows on sandy soils at virtually sea-level. I often take couple of hives in the back of the car to the heather in mid July but during a drought about 4 years ago arrived to find the heather all brown and withered with scarcely a flower to be seen so had to abandon the exercise. Thus in the heat wave last July I didn't bother. Many years I fill two supers per hive.I realise your Mourne heather is at altitude and maybe covered in mist!
