I am (hopefully!) being given my first bees by a local beekeeper soon, and I would like to give her something in return as she will accept no money.
She has basic beekeeping equipment, although she did express an interest in cut comb (?)

If you could choose a gift, what would it be?
Thanks for any ideas!

It's difficult, but here's some ideas:

1) photos or a video of the colony in a few weeks' time, doing really well - if she's the kind sort that cares about you enough to give bees away, she almost certainly will be worrying about both how well you do, AND how well the bees are doing; a photo of a happy colony and a happy beekeeper might be well received.

2) cake - homemade. Unless she's got one of those diary/wheat/whatever intolerances, everyone loves cake.

3) a nice book on bees - I got "The buzz about bees" by Jurgen Tautz recently. It's very good, has great pictures and lots of thought-provoking stuff about how a bee colony works almost like a single, bigger, organism.

Hope that helps.
