Could anyone suggest where we can get hold of a tap for a plastic extractor?

The standard size taps have an external diameter of 48mm but our hole is only 40mm.

If the worst comes to it, we can make the hole bigger, but would prefer to have a tap the right size

TIA for any advice.

Ah thank you, that is a thought - I'd forgotten Godfrey does repairs.

The 40mm one on the website is the standard size which won't fit - we've already got one of those.

40mm is the internal diameter of the standard size valve. It has an external diameter of about 48mm.

The hole in our extractor is 40mm, so the standard one with a 48mm diameter doesn't fit .......

I wouldn't faff about. Make the hole the right size for the readily available standard.

Have you tried the extractor manufacturer/supplier?

42mm cutout seems to be one 'standard'. Thornes could sell you this alternative to a classic 'gate' that would fit a 42mm-ish hole http://www.thorne.co.uk/honey-and-w...-storage-and-strainers/valves?product_id=6779

If extending the hole, you should take care that you don't extend it so far downwards as to leave no room above the interior 'floor' for the backing nut!

Since the drum is only plastic, it should be fairly simple to enlarge the hole by a couple of mm ...

Have you tried ebay?
Yes - tried them, could only find standard size altho' at a fraction of the cost of Th***es

It's old and no-one can remember where it came from!!
Th***es say they used to do two sizes - 1.25inch and 1.75 inch. Now they only do one size - 1.5 inch :hairpull:

Yeah - that's what we've done in the end.

The enlargement did have to be done eccentrically, so far it seems to be water-tight, so hopefully it'll be honey-tight as well.

Thanks everyone!!
