Just squashed a wasp on the window. It didn't look all that big but was presumably a queen which has overwintered somewhere in the house and had just woken up.

I nailed a queen in the attic last weekend. We are plagued with nests in the attic, so I have no qualms about being ruthless. It was rather dopey, and I grabbed the nearest object to squash it. Only after missing a few times and thumping the floor rather a lot did I realise that I had clubbed the wasp to death with a box of live shotgun cartridges. Ooops.
